HAPPY DAY!!! I’m in good spirits today because I have NOTHING on my agenda. Nothing besides laundry, cooking, blogging, dishes, dog walks, oh well you get it. Does anyone ever just do nothing?!?! Don’t answer that.

I just finished watching the movie The Family Stone. I watched it a few years ago and forgot how much I loved it. I saw a fellow food blogger watching it on her stories the other day and was all ”OHMYYYGAHHH WHAT IS THAT MOVIE CALLED, I LOVE THAT MOVIE,” (It has Diane Keaton in it – is there a movie with Diane Keaton that isn’t totally lovable?!). She kindly reminded me it is The Family Stone. And so today, my top priority was to watch this little Christmas movie. Oh and if you want to follow the other food blogger I highly suggest it. She blogs more than me. And is funny and has good recipes… wait why am I telling you to follow her? 😉

I love the movie so much because it reminds me of my family of six (minus the boys) because I’m the middle child of six girls. All the personalities in the movie just crack me up because it’s TOO relatable. Oh, you like how I just casually glazed over the fact that I’m the middle child of six sisters. Six biological sisters. From the same parents. Oh, the youngest is 19 and the oldest two, twins, are 41. I also have six nieces and nephews. I’m glad you know that about me. I feel so much closer to you now.

Anyway, I forgot that I have some beef with The Family Stone. SPOILER ALERT. In what world is it ok that you and your sister / brother just trade off with each others spouses and its cool???? Movies are so weird like that sometimes. If you haven’t seen the movie, I’m talking about how Sarah Jessica Parker is initially dating Dermot Mulroney and then Dermot’s family (Luke Wilson, Esme from Twilight, Regina George, their brother Thad, Diane Keaton, and the Dad from Parenthood). In comes Clare Danes, SJP’s sister to save SJP from Dermot Mulroney’s family. Dermot falls in love with Clare Danes, SJP falls in love with Luke Wilson. Luke Wilson and Dermot Mulroney have a 5 ½ minute scuffle with each other over the fact that Luke Wilson likes SJP. Meanwhile, Clare Danes somehow leaves and SJP isn’t mad at her? Fast forward a year later and SJP and LW are together now and Dermot and Danes are together and everyone is just down with it??????? It’s blasphemy. And weird. You follow me?? I think my annoyance all boils down to the fact that I’m still annoyed with Clare Danes for stealing Winona Ryder’s man in Little Women. Or wait, was that Kirsten Dunst? I’m annoyed at her, too.

Amidst all this drama, I spent the afternoon cooking up some roasted veggies, turkey meatloaf, and buttered green beans. I figure we will have some turkey loaf (I’m currently not eating mammals. Except for that one bite of Matt’s cheesesteak I had last night.) and veggies for dinner, and we will just eat the leftovers all week with a smattering of cut veggies, fruit, chips and salsa, and cottage cheese this week. I am refusing to go to the grocery store as we will only be in town until Wednesday.

I have my Company Christmas party in Omaha on Thursday so we will drive up to Omaha Wednesday night and stay in Omaha through next Wednesday for Christmas.

What are you doing for Christmas? Do you have a big family that is loud and boisterous and fun?! What family traditions do you have? Is your family quiet? What is your mom like? Tell me everything. Can I come over for Christmas, too?

Here’s the recipe for my definitely-not-beef-but-you-can-make-with-beef-if-you-want meat loaf. It’s super good and a healthier, lighter version than its red meat counterpart. I served mine with buttered green beans, roasted broccoli and sweet potatoes.

I N G R E D I E N T S

  • 1 LB 80/20 ground turkey
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 yellow onion, chopped
  • ½ cup bread crumbs
  • ½ cup ketchup (1/4 for mixture, ¼ for top)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp pepper
  • 5 dashes Worcestershire
  • 1/2 tsp of olive oil (optional – I like to add a little oil since turkey is generally more lean)

D I R E C T I O N S

Preheat oven to 350 F.

  1. Combine turkey, egg, onion, bread crumbs, ketchup, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire until completely mixed.
  2. Transfer mixture to bread pan, and cover with remaining ketchup. If you want to be fancy use a can of tomato paste with a tsp of sugar.
  3. bake at 350F for 50 minutes – 1 hour.
  4. Serve with veggies of your choice

Happy Eating Friends! And don’t steal your siblings spouse this holiday season.
