Local Lavender French 75


Hey, hey! I know, it’s been a hot sec since you last heard from me! I’m good, thanks for asking. OMGSH I’ve missed you, too! What?! You’re thirsty and need a cocktail? Oh, I’ve got you covered!

I made a fun little recipe for a Local Lavender French 75 for my friends at Sweet Streams Lavender farm. The pinnacle of this cocktail is that nearly 50% of the ingredients were local! Excluding the lemons (does Kansas grow lemons?!).


I’ll never forget my first French 75 from a small craft-cocktail room in Omaha’s Old Market. The tartness of the lemon, the effervescence of sparkling wine and the slight finish of Gin will forever be emblazoned in my mind with wide heart eyes!


Legend has it the French 75 was invented during the height of America’s prohibition, but some argue it was invented long before and favored by Charles Dickens and his literary cohorts. Whichever version of history with which you side, it is no argument the French 75 is a beloved drink by many and a cocktail every bartender worth their salt has perfected. 


I remixed the classic French 75 with some of my favorite local ingredients to give this sparkling cocktail a new, local twist that will re-write history! I introduce you to the Local Lavender French 75! The floral, yet spicy essence of the lavender paired with the sweet and citrusy Citron are a match made in heaven when mixed with the evergreen flavors of gin, and the bubbles of a dry sparkling wine. 


Ingredients:

  • 1 chilled Champagne flute
  • 0.5 oz of chilled Sweet Streams Lavender Simple Syrup
  • 0.5 oz of chilled Somerset Ridge Citron Wine
  • 1 oz of chilled Gin (I used Tanqueray)
  • Top with cold, sparkling wine (dry or extra dry) until glass is full
  • Twist of lemon essence + garnish
  • Serve very cold. 

Directions: Pour simple syrup, citron, and gin into Champagne flute. Top mixture with dry or very dry sparkling wine. Peel off a ribbon of lemon skin and twist peel essence into flute, garnish with the same lemon peel. Serve immediately. Enjoy!
